On Fridays, students are usually eager to get home, classes are over, the weekend is beginning, and it’s time to get that much needed rest. However, members of Coppell Film Society have found out that a rewarding experience can be found if one only stays for a few hours after that final bell rings.
“I started Coppell Film Society to show films that I thought weren’t being shown and that I enjoyed to other people,” Tyler Austin said.
Films such as, “Breathless”, “Vivre Sa Vie”, and in this new year so far, Roman Polanksi’s neo-noir “Chinatown”, Terry Gilliam’s absurdist adventure “Time Bandits” , and Truffaut’s ode to the love between three people “Jules et Jim”. These films are films that have been selected because they are either classic films in their own right or because they are films of merit.
“I love all of the films I have shown, they are all great in their own ways” senior Tyler Austin said.
CFS has also helped students bond together and learn more about film. Different aspects of films such as cinematography, direction, and screenwriting are all discussed at the meetings. Though sometimes esoteric references to other films are made that may fly over the head of a novice, but the novice is educated and becomes an even more important part of Coppell Film Society than before.
“I joined CFS because I read the announcements about it and such and decided that I would join. So far I’ve enjoyed the films they’ve shown and my favorite so far was “Breathless” by Jean Luc Godard,” junior Dmitri Potemkin
CFS’s leadership is comprised of President Tyler Austin and Vice-President Sam Levin. They decide which films that they will show, and they also provide the refreshments that are found at almost every film society meeting. Though they do also accept donations from the members, and are also willing to accept food that the members bring for everyone in the club.
The meetings are at 4:30 each Friday, so if one is ever bored on a Friday or just looking for a film to watch, Coppell Film Society is there to be experienced.
