Oktoberfest fun for all

By Aditi Shrikant

Oktoberfest has the reputation of being a drunken carnival full of sleazy beer drinkers and hardy foods. This event is not often looked upon as a family experience, but while photographing this festival I acquired a different perspective.

I watched as kids played the classic carnival games while their parents sipped on exotic beverages and reflected on how this was not at all like the drunken stories commonly told. Not only was this a family experience, but a culturally educational one too. German dances, music, and acts were all performed to give a glimpse into the German culture.

“I seriously felt like I was back in Germany,” Sunita Narayana, Flower Mound junior, said.

Narayana recently returned from a three week student exchange trip from Germany and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and festivities of Oktoberfest.

This annual celebration is not only a versatile event for both adult and children, but an enriching educational experience.
